We take a mid-day flight to Krakow and check into a good 3* hotel in the Old City. We shall have an evening meal at a Restaurant in the old town.
Tuesday 15th March 2011
In the morning, we shall have a guided walking tour of the medieaval Jewish Kazimeirz Quarter of the old town, visiting some of the old synagogues and the renowned Remu’h Jewish Cemetary. The walk will finish at the Botaterow Getta Square on the south side of the river – the centre of the Ghetto area that was created by the Nazis. After a traditional Polish lunch, the remainder of the day will be free to explore the Old Town at leisure. Visit the famous Market Square and St. Mary’s Church, and the 16th Century Royal Castle and Cathedral on Wawel Hill
Wednesday 16th March 2011
We shall be driven to Auschwitz for a guided walking tour of both Auschwitz and Birkenau. Auschwitz is an hour and a half from Krakow, and the whole visit will take much of the day. It is a deeply moving experience, and space will be given in the evening to reflect together.
Thursday 17th March 2011
We shall head today to the Ojcow National Park, an area famous for its traditional villages, beautiful limestone hills and string of mediaeval castles known as the ‘Eagles Nests’, of which we shall visit the most famous – Pieskowa Skala.
Friday 18th March 2011
In the morning we shall head to the Wieliczka Salt Mines. Salt was mined here from as early as the 11th Century and was one of the most important products of Poland’s economy for centuries.
