Monday 4 May
Fly London to Amman Check into Mariam Hotel, Madaba
Tuesday 5 May.
We leave Madaba on the King’s Highway, to walk the Ibn Hammad Canyon, a spectacularly beautiful 4 hour walk starting at a hot spring and descending through a sub-tropical gorge alongside a sparkling river. Afterwards we visit Kerak Crusader Castle before finishing the day at Rummana camp in the Dana Nature Reserve.
Wednesday 6 May.
Walk from Dana to Feinan. (15km, 5 hrs) Another easy walk from the upper edge of the Rift Valley, down to the desert lowlands of Wadi Araba. Night at the very comfortable and atmospheric Feinan Eco Lodge in the desert
Thursday 7 May
Vehicle from Feinan to Petra, visiting Showbak Castle on the way. 2 nights at Candles Hotel, Petra.
Friday 8 May
Walk from Beidah to Petra, visiting Nabataean remains at Little Petra, and walking through a landscape that has changed little in 10,000 years. We enter Petra via the Monastery and explore the ancient city. (10km, 5 hrs)
Saturday 9 May
Drive from Petra to Wadi Rum. Night at Bait Ali Camp.
Sunday 10 May
Full day walking in Wadi Rum. Night under the stars in the desert with Bedouin feast.
Monday 11 May
Leaving Wadi Rum early, we visit the Baptismal site at Bethany beyond the Jordan, across the Jordan Valley from Jericho. There may be the opportunity of a swim in the Dead Sea, and also a visit to Mount Nebo, where Moses died, before going to stay at Theodore Schneller Guesthouse in Amman.
Tuesday 12 May
Visit the School for the Deaf in Salt. Continue to Jerash, one of the most complete Roman cities in the Middle East, and on to Ajlun, visiting the Castle. Back to Madeba
Wednesday 13 May
Madeba visit by foot. Free afteroon to shop or wander. Farewell dinner at Harat Jdoudna Rest in Madeba.
Thursday 14 May
Fly from Amman to London
