Monday 19 January
Arrive Addis Ababa. Check into our hotel for Morning rest. Afternoon visit to Anglican Church and meeting with Bishop Andrew Proud. Short tour of the city.
Tuesday 20 January
Visit to the Ethnological Museum – former home of Haile Salessie, Holy Trinity Cathedral, and meeting with Ethiopian Orthodox Patriarch.
Wednesday 21 January
Morning flight from Addis Ababa to Lalibela. Tour of the rock churches in the village, a World Heritage site, and also living monastic communities.
Thursday 22 January - Friday 23 January
These two days will be spent in the spectacular hills around Lalibela visiting surrounding villages and ancient churches
Saturday 24 January
We travel across the mountains from Lalibela to Gonder by road, for a 2 night stay at the Goha Hotel, overlooking the town. Gonder was founded as the capital of Ethiopia by Emperor Fasilides in 1636.
Sunday 25 January
Visiting the mediaeval palaces of Gonder; the Kuskuam Palace and the 16th Century Debre Berhan Salassie Church outside town.
Monday 26 January
Visit to Simien Mountains National Park; one the of the highest and largest mountain ranges in Africa. Night in Debark
Tuesday 27 January
Travel by road from Debark to Bahir Dar beside Lake Tana, where fishermen in papyrus reed boats still ply its waters.
Wednesday 28 January
Day spent visiting the mediaeval island monasteries of Lake Tana. Late afternoon, possible excursion to the Blue Nile Falls.
Thursday 29 January
Fly from Bahir Dar to Addis Ababa. Drive from Addis Ababa to the ancient walled Pilgrimage town of Harar, the spiritual heart of Ethiopia’s Moslem community.
Friday 30 January
Visiting sights of Harar and a project working for leprosy sufferers in the town
Saturday 31 January
Flight from Harar to Addis Ababa
Sunday 1 February
Join the Anglican Community in Addis Ababa for Sunday service. Rest of day relaxing in Addis.
Monday 2 February
Return flight from Addis to London
